It's finally here! I bought a new online shopping cart a few weeks ago from Pick Pic for my clients and it's awesome! I'm still in the transition of uploading all of my old galleries to this new cart but it should be done soon. Because of this I'll be taking a break from blogging this week ;(
Seriously, Pick Pic is going to make my life just a little easier for me and my clients. It's very simple to navigate through and has a lot of cool features. I love everything that I've seen so far...my only complaint is that I didn't switch over to it sooner! Everything should be up and running by this weekend...can't wait!
Oh yeah, and I'm close to closing a lease on a studio this week. Very exciting time right now. Here's a sneak peak from my wedding last weekend. Blog post to come next week.

I love Austin weddings! They are always fun and the scenery there is amazing. So you can imagine how happy I was when Lisa called me last year and told me she'd be having her wedding at University Camp in San Marcos.
I didn't get a chance to meet either of them before the wedding so when it started raining as I was pulling up to the wedding I didn't know what to expect! They were both as relaxed as can be though and are two of the most laid-back people I've ever met. Special thanks to my good friend Collins Metu for helping me out on this one. Now to the images!

Oh how beautiful! The bride and groom look wonderfully happy and the hanging lanterns in the tent add a nice vibe. Awesome.

I met Lauren last year when she coordinated a wedding I shot at Shirley Acres. She is probably one of the most fun people I've worked with and we've kept in touch since then. A few weeks ago she called me and told me she wanted to surprise her mom with some photos of her and her siblings for Mother's Day! So we went out to the warehouse district downtown and did an urban family shoot. Lauren told me that her mom "cried" when they gave her the images framed as a present. What an awesome gift huh ;)

Andrea and Juan were married last May at the Courtyard on St. James. Their wedding was awesome but since I'm a little behind on blogging I though I'd start with their engagement session first. They selected Discovery Green downtown as the location for their shoot. It was great and fit well with their style and personalities. I always try to get my clients involved in the selection process for their engagement shoots, that way the session is a little more unique to them. On a side note, andrea and Juan are both avid Rock Band players...my kind of clients!

Good stuff man! That is one happy looking couple. Of course, they have you as a photographer, so that helps!

Lately I've been thinking about some of the reasons I like shooting wedding photography. I've come to realize that it's "photographing people" that I'm really attracted to. With weddings there are so many parts to the day (details, candids, scenery) which I love to, but I find that I enjoy doing portraits of my couples the most. Then I got to thinking, "Maybe I should expand into doing more portraits" and that's how Akil Bennett Seniors came about!

I've been working on a website the past few weeks and it should be ready very soon! Being a young photographer myself, it's pretty easy for me to relate to teenagers and I love the fun and energy they bring to their shoots! I'm really looking forward to this. A natural light downtown loft is currently in the works so I can do shoots inside in addition to the locations I already use around town. We all know how hot it gets in Houston so having an air conditioned studio downtown will be nice!
I'm currently looking for 2010 graduates who would like to be senior reps for their schools. If you're interested, email me at akilbennettphoto@mac.com to get more info!
